There aren’t many places in Yorkshire where you can get married in a UNESCO world heritage site, but one of them is right on our doorstep in the charming village of Saltaire. Saltaire is also the home to our favourite church, hands down. Sorry to play favourites here but the Saltaire United Reform church is not only stunning but headed by the nicest vicar you could hope for, Rev. Caroline. She’s utterly thoughtful and genuinely there for a couple in love and the amount of effort she puts into each ceremony is heartwarming. So when Gemma and Scott told us how much the URC means to them, we were only too happy to be involved in capturing their day for them.
A lovely vintage bus collected the guests in the morning before arriving at the church where Scott patiently waited for Gemma and her bridesmaids. It didn’t matter about the summer thunder storm passing overhead as Gemma and Scott tied the knot. Family in friends in tow, and with the sun back out in all its glory, the newlyweds marched back down the aisle, faces beaming. They have to be one of the happiest ever couples coming out of the church! The guests made their way up the road to Victoria Hall in Saltaire for drinks and nibbles. We’ve photographed weddings at Victoria Hall before but never had we seen upstairs! We were amazed at what was up there, stunning, bright rooms and beautiful views over the village. We had no idea!
With drinks in the Glen Room (overlooking the glen!) it was through to the fabulously decorated York Room for meal and speeches. The heavens chose the right time to open again with another summer downpour but we were all tucked inside enjoying great food and plenty to drink. Afterwards, as the formalities wound down, we made a few minutes for some informal photos of Gemma and Scott, just enjoying their first newly married moments together and basking in the stunning architecture of Saltaire that they love so much.
